The NSMQ,
contest by contest
Ghana's National Science & Maths Quiz has run 31 contested editions since 1994. The official record keeps one field per year: the school that won. This keeps the contests.
NSMQ 2026
174 schools entered. 27 seeded (including one private school), 4 additional private schools, 107 regional qualifiers (including 10 championship debutants) and 36 top runners-up. PRESEC-Legon took a record ninth title at the University of Ghana Premier Dome, Legon on 10 September 2026.
Why any of this
The official past-winners page carries one field per year: the school that won. No contestants, no scores, no dates, no venues. Two of its year tabs say "No Competition held" without saying which years. A full day after the 2026 final it still listed 2025 as the most recent edition.
The record rots in public too. One outlet called Pope John "2021 champions" in one article and "2001 winners" in another the same week. I went to Pope John, so believe me, I would love for the second one to be true. It isn't. We won once, in 2001. 2021 was Prempeh, and I have made my peace with it.
Elsewhere, St. Peter's got put third on the all-time table with three titles. Mfantsipim has four. The tally here adds up to 31 contested editions exactly, so you can check it against anything else you read.
Keep the receipts. Show the arithmetic. List what is missing.
